The Barbara Ferguson Memorial Scholarship

The Barbara Ferguson Scholarship is dedicated in honor of Barbara Ferguson. Barbara was one of our first, most dedicated, and most loyal supporters of Odessa Martial Arts. Barbara came to nearly every class to give her grandson an opportunity she felt he positively benefited from. Barbara was indeed, the matriarch of our club. She watched us practice so often that it would be no surprise if she could do all the forms and techniques. From the sidelines, Barbara would cheer on children (and sometimes give them a little lecture if need be). She laughed with the class during fun times and was prompt to give out band-aids for booboos. She shared in the pride of our accomplishments, and encouraged us through our struggles.

She believed that our club was greatly beneficial, not only to her grand-children’s lives, but to many others as well. When financial needs were an issue for families, she insisted on paying for their classes and even special events. She always went the extra mile to help our club. She’d help clean our dojo and always brought lots of yummy platters to our events. She was willing to give more to the club than could be expected from anyone.

In honor of her, this scholarship pays for students to attend classes and events who may not otherwise be able to participate. Thank you, Barbara, from our deepest hearts! You are our Taekwon-do Angel!
